Express Entry Visa is Canada’s primary online immigration application system for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents. It manages applications under three major economic immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
This streamlined process uses a points-based Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assess and invite top candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Program
The Federal Skilled Worker Program is an express entry visa that is tailored for individuals with foreign work experience and qualifications. Candidates are selected based on key factors such as:
- Work experience in a skilled occupation (minimum 1 year in the last 10 years)
- Education level (with Educational Credential Assessment if completed outside Canada)
- Language proficiency (minimum CLB 7 in all components of English or French)
- Age, adaptability, and other selection factors
To qualify, applicants must score at least 67 points out of 100 on the FSW selection grid and meet minimum eligibility requirements. Proof of funds is required unless the applicant has a valid job offer or is legally working in Canada. Applicants must also plan to reside outside Quebec and meet medical and criminal admissibility criteria to be qualified for this express entry visa in Canada.
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
The Canadian Experience Class targets individuals who have gained skilled work experience within Canada and wish to apply for permanent residency. Eligibility criteria include:
- At least 1 year of full-time skilled work experience in Canada in the last 3 years (TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3)
- Language requirement: CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1, CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3
- No requirement for proof of funds
- Must be admissible and plan to live outside Quebec
- Education is not mandatory but may enhance your CRS score.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
The last express entry visa is the Federal Skilled Trades Program and is ideal for skilled trades people who have recent work experience. Its eligibility includes:
- Minimum 2 years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the last 5 years
- CLB 5 for speaking and listening; CLB 4 for reading and writing
- Work experience must match occupations listed under TEER 2 or 3 in the NOC
- Proof of funds unless already working in Canada or holding a valid job offer
